Mar 7, 2015 - In it the responder mentioned Hindenburg Journalist. I knew what the Hindenburg was. A crashed dirigible right? A tragedy made famous. Hindenburg Journalist is a multitrack audio editor designed for podcasters, audio producers and radio journalists. It might look like any another audio editor - but it’s not. The design and features are tailored spoken-word productions.
The mission:. This is a place where podcasters can discuss equipment and get info on production techniques, and can discuss promotion with other content creators. This is a place where listeners can discover new podcasts & discuss favorites. This is not a place for people to just link of their podcasts.
See the next section for specifics. Read before posting: Self promotion is not the focus of this subreddit.
Feedback solicitation is only allowed if you are having specific issues, such as audio, etc. Posting links to your podcast for promotion only will be removed immediately by the automod or by a moderator. Repeat offenders will be considered spam and banned with no prior notice. For general feedback, you can post your links in the weekly stickied thread stickied at the top of the main page.
Please follow the rules listed in the thread. Do not make a self post about your podcast doing the same. Please make self posts about your podcast that has actual context and substance, this is a community, not a marketing subreddit.

The thing is, I think a lot of that expense is licensing really good plug-in software for additional loudness normalization control and the like which costs a pretty penny as third party plugins. There are some nifty automatic EQ settings as well. One of the other nice things is the licensing model which lets you install on up to three computers of either Mac or PC as you see fit.

It's nice that you can have a spare computer that you never use the software on just in case there is an issue with the main computer. But OP is right, you do have to watch the tutorials. Hindenburg does not work like most other recording and editing programs, which is a minus for the learning curve and a big plus if your workflow matches Hindenburg's strengths.! The nice thing about their multitrack recording and something that you find almost nowhere else is it extends across devices, I.E. You can record multiple USB devices with the Pro edition and up. I don't think you can do that in Audition or almost any other editor or DAW.
I understand that there is a massive leap from Standard to Professional and a lot of features are reserved for the upper tier. It boils down to the question of whether the software does what you need it to do and in a way that works for your workflow.
The hint is in the name, Journalist. It's at it's best assembling product from assembled components, interviews and such. For any that got it earlier this year when they effectively gave it away, it's a solid product with a lot of great features. If you paied $100 for the Standard version, well, you get to make that choice.
I personally bought the Standard in January a couple months before the sale. I upgraded that with the slight discount to the Pro upgrade and bought two more copies of Standard. It's a choice.!
That's very nice that you can use multiple devices; that's really excellent. As a journalist by my day-job, though, I'm still not fond of the regular version of the product. I need multi-track recording; I can't run stories and release radio or podcast without it. I'll often set up a small studio on the go with a laptop and multiple microphones.
For solo field reporting, it may prove useful, but even then, double mics are a huge plus. I reported in DC during the inauguration in January and had a backpack with two microphones hooked into a Steinberg box, which was powered by portable batteries, which was going into a multi-track laptop also switching batteries. I couldn't have done that without multi-tracking. That may be an anomaly in everyday journalistic reporting, but multi-track recording seems like such a bizarre thing to omit from a DAW. I would understand, however, if they decided to omit the multiple USB devices from the regular version. That, as you said, is a huge perk!
Multiple inputs recorded simultaneously - sorry for not clarifying that further! So if you did use an interface with more than one microphone on Journalist, you could either mix them all into a single track or record only one of the microphones. You can't get separate tracks of each. It's a limitation I find very frustrating because the Pro version just adds the arming mechanism on the rest of the tracks. It's a basic feature they purposefully baked out of the basic edition that should have been there. I only pointed it out as we discussed it recently and that's a good price. RX Elements is a collection of plugins that you use in Audacity or your audio editor of choice.
It does come with its own editor but it's not meant to edit your podcast in as such. It's meant to see all sorts of things and figure out what's the problem.
You can edit in RX and I have, but it's more for hunting down that darn dog walking across the hard floor with un cut nails or where you had the gain too high and distorted. There are some features, especially in the more expensive packages that are not plugins but have to be used in the RX editor. There is a connector but that's getting into advanced stuff.! Izotope is a well-known name for the professional audio guys and their stuff is really good.
It's also overkill for most podcasters. I happen to own the Advanced versions of the packages so I want to limit to what is in the Elements packages.
If something goes wrong, RX is the tool of choice to save the recording. Its dialog denoise is about the best out there and can salvage some really rough recordings. The de-click is almost as useful.
Lots of bad clicks is a common problem, and that neglects mouth clicks and the like. De-hun can take out a lot of annoying artifacts like my AC has a nasty 840 Hz band that I can de-hum or EQ out.
And de-clip can save recordings with too much gain applied. All the tools are excellent and can do seemingly miraculous things. Sort of a finishing tool. I rarely use it as it's massive overkill and very music industry centric. Just not a tool I suggest. Neutron is newish and on track to replace Ozone entirely I believe.
It's meant for editing music tracks and getting things in line for final master. Again, very music centric and overkill. Very powerful compressors and EQs included. I don't need multi-band but if you want that power, it's there in spades. It's a little different than some other compressor/EQ/Limiters, but I don't think that matters in the Elements package.! The other DAWs tend to be aimed at music. Hindenburg is sort of clip oriented.
It's a massive shock when you first open it and try to do something basic and fail completely. The manuals and tutorials are required at least at first. This cannot be overstated. It's meant to do what it does for in a market that has some overlap with podcasters. It has automated push button effects that you cannot get deep access to but tend to do a great job making things better. If you want under the hood controls, look elsewhere.
It isn't everyone's cup of tea. But if you match its work flow, it can be a massive time-saver.!
